MMH is a New Orleans music scoring company that was begun for one reason: a passion for creating music. The two composers who founded the company in 2010 want to write music that suits your needs, as both a craft and a vehicle for artistic expression. Geared to customize original music for any project in film, tv, live theatre, and advertisement, Magnolia Music House is an excellent alternative to huge production music libraries that often don’t quite fit the concept at hand. Please take a look and listen around the site and feel free to contact MMH with your questions anytime.
Magnolia Music House was founded in 2010 by BJ Blue and Joe Shirley.
BJ Blue
A clarinetist by trade, BJ Blue began studying music seriously at Loyola University New Orleans, earning his BM in Music Performance and Composition. He has composed several solo and chamber works using all varieties of instruments and ensembles, as well as an orchestral work and electronic compositions. A devout lover of rock and pop music, BJ finds a full array of roots and influence in both the classical and popular worlds. His love for stories, however, has always remained a driving force in all his work and often pushes his music to discover a storyline and characters of their own.
Joe Shirley
With a BM in Music Composition from Loyola University, Joe Shirley has already established himself as a composer in the city of New Orleans. He’s written pieces for a variety of mixed ensembles, piano, chorus, strings, orchestra, and for his groove-based jazz band, e.company. Experienced in composing scores that incorporate both live and sampled instruments, Joe strives to express the essence of the musical work and support the aesthetic of each individual project.
